Pollinators: Monarchs, Rusty Patched Bumble Bees and Habitat Guidelines Seminar

The decline of the monarch butterfly, honey bees and the recent listing of the rusty patched bumblebee have put pollinators on the forefront of environmental issues in the United States. Pollinators have an important relationship with our agricultural resources in the Midwest, however, pollinators are ubiquitous throughout Illinois, even urban areas.  Despite some actions to help pollinators, the rusty patched bumble, once a common species, was listed in March 2017 as Federally Endangered. This species has a stronghold in the Midwestern states including Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota in urban, suburban and rural areas.  Public agencies, scientists and non-profit organizations have teamed up to develop information about pollinator habitats, plant species, and management guidelines that are intended to help land managers and planners take in account pollinators in design and management and potentially mitigation.

Please join us to learn about pollinator habitat, patch size, plant species, planting techniques, listed species and management guidelines to protect and enhance pollinator populations. Consultants, engineers, municipal staff, scientists, resource managers, planners are encouraged to attend.
